The new year welcomed me by slapping a cold on me. Mostly it is in my sinuses. I think lack of sleep has finally caught up with me.
I’ve had a four (4) day weekend beginning Thursday. Mostly it has been spent holed up doing not much. I ventured out now and then but nothing too serious. There was an exception.
On Friday I put the Nokian studded tires on the Cross Check. I was prepping for the
Spoke-n-Sport annual New Year’s day ride. Saturday I hauled my bike down the steps and ventured out. Who should pull up but that
crazy MinusCar fellow and his spouse.
I rolled to the ride struggling with this cold. I couldn’t breathe. Thankfully the drugs I’d been taking kept my nose from running excessively. The cold, windy weather kept participation much down this year. That was a bummer. But, at 1 PM we rolled out.
I struggled to keep up with the lead group. I couldn’t breathe, there was some snow on part of the course, and singlespeeding didn’t help. We got back to the food and I was sweating. I was nice to peel the layers off and chat with some of the rollers.
This year’s rendition featured GoldSprints. Again, the cold kept me out of the action. I made my escape early.
This cold really sucks. It is so hard to focus. I don’t feel sick enough to miss work, but sick enough that it is a burden. The silver lining is the cold drugs make me sleep well combating the insomnia that put me here in the first place.
Ride On.
